While looking at images of Tiffany lamps, I was struck by the simpler pattern of the Turtleback Tile model - like shoji screens parting to reveal jewels of glass. However, the color scheme of that lamp was primarily white, and I wanted to to incorporate the golden glass that I was fascinated with. Instead of parting to reveal jewels, the screens in Leaves of Glass would part to reveal abundance of the natural world. I like the tension between the serene and ordered and the colorful and chaotic. This panel includes another example of leaving some open spaces (amongst the leaves), and is one of the few pieces I have made where a copper patina has been applied to the soldered lines.
